WHY WE EXIST

The Rice Baptist Student Ministry exists to make disciples of Jesus who transform the world beyond the hedges. We are a Christian student organization on the campus of Rice University, caring for the whole student (academically, spiritually, physically) from any background.

Any student (religious or not) is welcome to join us at any of our events!

WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God who came to reconcile people back to God. Every person sins, and it is only through Jesus that a relationship with God is possible. We believe in the gospel of Jesus Christ, as stated in Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." 

We believe in one God who created the heavens and the earth (Genesis 1:1). He designed men and women to be in perfect relationship with Him. However, this relationship was fractured when sin entered the world through humankind's rebellion against God (Genesis 3). Now, all of us experience the world's brokenness in our relationships with God and with one another (Romans 3:23). But God demonstrates His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Jesus, the Son of God, lived the perfect life and took the punishment for humanity's sins when He died on the cross. He was resurrected and sits at the right hand of God, and by believing He is Lord and that God raised Him from the dead, we can have eternal life (Romans 10:9). We are Christians not because of what we have done, but because of our faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. We have hope in knowing He will return to reconcile all things to Himself (Colossians 1:20) and creation will finally be made right as God will dwell with His people (Revelation 21).
